Finished Quest for Glory 2 remake

I finished the “Quest for Glory 2” remake a couple of minutes before it was released, which was rather fun – chatting with people on the internet about it, but not being able to say anything, haha. We did manage to find the download URL before it was officially published tough – but only by a few minutes.

I didn’t end on as high a score as I could have, but I did skip a few quests. Now to go back and start with a new character in Quest for Glory 1 :D

Quest for Glory 2 (Remake) released!

AGDInteractive have released their remake of Quest for Glory 2, so go and download it!

I’m providing one of the download mirrors, so I got the game a day early – we were told we’re allowed to play it, but not release it or any information about it until the official release. I grabbed a few screen shots, so you can see the difference between the original and the remake, which are below.

The game looks great and yet still feels just like the original. They’ve added an option to make navigating the alleys easier (note, this is an option you can choose, the original style is still there). Personally I’ve found fighting rather frustrating, but maybe I just miss the original Quest for Glory 1 style (where all you really had to do was press “up” to attack, and occasionally dodge).

This game is DEFINITELY worth playing, even if you’ve never played the original – though I do think it would be much easier if you’re importing a characters. There are also a few easter eggs, such as Al Emmo making a guest appearance ;) Maybe I’ll write a separate post about the easter eggs.

Quest for Glory 2 remake

For those of you who don’t already know, I’m a huge Sierra “quest game” fan – my favorites being the “Quest for Glory” series. The problem is, these game were made ages ago, and feature very low quality/detail graphics, so aren’t as fun as they could be:

Quest for Glory 1 – Original

Anyway, a long story short, the first “Quest for Glory” was remade featuring much better graphics and mouse support, but nothing was ever done for “Quest for Glory 2″.

Quest for Glory 1 – Remake

A group called AGDInteractive Studios (who re-made some of the “Kings Quest” games) have been busy re-making Quest for Glory 2, and it’s due for release very soon. The exciting part… I know when the release date is, and I’m going to be providing one of the mirrors for the download :D Which probably doesn’t mean much to anyway, but it’s pretty cool to be involved, even if only in a very small way.

So keep checking for more news on the release ;)

Gaming news

1) There’s a new “Wolfenstein” game coming out, hi-res trailer here.

2) There’s a “co-op” mod for Doom3, which is lots of fun. Download here or visit the site.

3) Apparently Red Alert 3‘s minimum system requirements (summarized) are : Windows XP, 2.0GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 6GB disk space, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or ATI Radeon X1800 video card (and sound and DVD drive).

4) Team Fortress 2 still rocks – oh wait, that’s not new ;)

TF2: Two awesome Spy vidoes

I found two cool Spy videos yesterday, but don’t have the right plugins installed to post them on my blog properly, so you’re just going to have to click the links below to watch them:

YouTube – Team Fortress 2 – Don’t meet the Spy! (Original English)

That Pineapple is a spy! – TF2 video

I played some TF2 as spy after watching those videos… but I sucked really bad :| I blame it on low fps, and high ping.

TF2 Lego Sentry

A TF2 Sentry made out of Lego… what more do I say, other than “WOW!” :D

TF2: first kill with reflected flare

Over on TeamFortress2Fort.com, Scorch posted a screen shot of the first kill with a reflected flare (that I’ve seen anyway). What makes it even better is that it was the pyro who shot the flare that he killed.

In other words: a pyro shot a flare at him at the exact moment he used his “compression blast” (he was also pyro), so the flare was sent back and hit it’s sender, who then died. There’s even a little icon showing how the guy was killed. Impressive :)

TF2 Hitboxes

If you haven’t already seen it, there’s a rather interesting video on WeGame showing how the hitboxes (how/where you can shoot your enemies) in Team Fortress 2 work.

Ever wondered why you shot someone and they didn’t take damage, or how you got shot when you were already out of the way, etc? Here’s the answer:

Diablo 3 announced!

Blizzard announced Diablo 3 today, at their “Worldwide Invitational”. The official Diablo 3 website has also gone live, and has all the relevant information about the game, as well as a 19 minute long gameplay video!

Diablo 3

It seems good old Deckard Cain is still around, yabbering away as always. Did I mention the terrain (walls/pillars/etc) are destructable? While the interface looks very similar to Diablo 2′s, it’s been changed to make it easier to switch between skills and abilities. So far this game looks incredible.

Doom4

According to the id Software website:

Production has begun on DOOM 4™, the next journey into the legendary DOOM universe. We are expanding our internal team and are currently hiring to work on this highly anticipated title.

“DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software.  “It’s critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles.”
